Vishakapatnam - Day 6 & 7

Hello everyone,

We were off the radar, yesterday, intentionally, just to rest and relax! A 2-night halt is a luxury on our itinerary πŸ˜€ The 350 km drive from Vijaywada to Vizag was pretty cool, hassle-free...had lunch and caught up on some sleep and rest. The Dolphin Hotel at Vizag was recommended to us by a friend... ancient, but, excellent service and food. This morning, we set out to see more of Vizag. Really enjoyed the day. Vizag is a rather beautiful city, never expected it to be so. Firstly, i went in search of Waltair Park, where we lived in the early 60s. Dad was working at Caltex Oil Refinery in Vizag (now HPCL Oil Refinery) and we lived at the Officers Colony in Waltair Park. Mom had told me that we lived at #1, Waltair Park It was so sentimental to go back there, today, and, actually see #1, Waltair Park. I spoke to Dad and Mom and told them that I was standing at #1, Waltair Park! It's a beautiful Housing Colony, in the heart of Vizag, replete with their own Club, Playgrounds, and so much of green spaces. From there, we drove to Rushikonda Beach. On the way, visited the highest point in Vizag - Kailasagiri - no relation to our good friend, the Godman in Kailasa😜 Kailasagiri gave us stunning views of the beautiful Beach in Vizag and the magnificent Bay of Bengal! A good friend, Bhavna, in Bangalore, who belongs to Vizag, had recommended to us 'Raju Gari Dhaba' on Beach road, as a must-visit foodies delight. We were not disappointed πŸ˜… We ordered fish curry, mutton fry, prawn fry and chicken liver fry for lunch - absolutely wonderful food, authentic Andhra styleπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ Of course, our noses were running, beyond control, but it was simply an experience well worth it! After all that food, the bill was a stunning 900 rupees....πŸ˜‚ Post lunch, drove around the city and finally headed back to our Hotel. A memorable stay at Vizag....one of the objectives of this trip was accomplished - Waltair Park!

Tomorrow, we drive to Puri beach and Konarak. The Sun temple has always been in the bucket list!

That's it from Vizag, cheers, more updates tomorrow...

Stay with us! 🚘

  1. Dolphin was possibly the only decemt hotel in 1981. When flush with our Cadet's princely salary of Rs 360 we used to have 2 large Old Monks at the Admiral Bar. Is it still called the same? Super trip
