Puri Beach to Jamshedpur - Day 9

Hi everyone!

For 8 days, we relentlessly pursued the East Coast of India....we began with the southern most tip of India's East Coast ,- Kanyakumari, journeyed through Tuticorin, Rameshwaram / Dhanushkodi, Nagapattinam / Vailankanni, Puducherry, Port towns of Karaikal, Cuddalore enroute to Kanchipuram, then Vizag, and finally, Puri ! I'm guessing we must have covered about 75% of India's East Coast 👍 😎 Just before leaving Puri, this morning, we visited the world famous Puri Jagannath Temple and also took a few pictures at Puri's Golden beach - just in front of our Hotel. Not many are aware that Odisha is home to many pristine beaches, along its coastline. There are 3 deities at the Puri Jagannath temple. Lord Jagannath, who is a deity unique to Odisha, his elder brother, Balabhadra, and his sister, Subhadra. The famous Seer, Adi Shankaracharya, designated Puri as one of the 'Char dham' - the four holiest sites for Hindus. The four sites are Badrinath in the North, Dwaraka in the West, Puri in the East, and Rameswaram in the South. Within a span of 5 days, we have already visited two of these four holy sites 🙏👍

This morning, we bid adieu to India's spectacular East Coast, and set our direction for India's mainland, which we will crisscross for the next 20 odd days. As we neared Jamshedpur, this afternoon, our exciting adventure has already taken us across 5 States of India - Kerala, TN, Andhra, Odisha and Jharkhand..✌🙏 today's drive of about 450 kms was comfortable and enjoyable.

Jamshedpur is all about the Tatas. Founded in 1919 by Sir Jamshetji Tata.  It is Jharkhand's largest City. It is also called the 'Steel City of India', and also 'Tatanagar'. Jamshedpur is home to two of modern India's most famous Temples - Tata Steel and Tata Motors. Tata Steel was earlier called TISCO (Tata Iron & Steel) and Tata Motors was named TELCO (Tata Electric Locomotive company). Both these renowned institutions were helmed by stalwarts, epic names in the history of Indian industry. They mentored, nurtured and made these Organisations what they are today. Russi Mody was the Managing Director of TISCO and Sumanth Moolgonkar was likewise the head of TELCO. Folklore has it that Tata Motors named their first SUV, after their former MD, the Tata Sumo. 

Guys, tomorrow, we cross into West Bengal - Asansol, and from there, into UP - Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur Mathura.
