Day 23 - Ahmedabad

Hello friends,

Day 23 saw us cross into Gujarat from Rajasthan, the 12th State on our road trip, Our Discovery of India. The longest segment in our itinerary, in terms of kms, we drove 560 kms today from Ajmer to Ahmedabad. About 7.5 hours driving time. Wonderful roads, and a peaceful drive, except for the border checking by Gujarat Police (for alcohol - Gujarat being a 'Dry State'). 

Ahmedabad is a cousin to Varanasi, in terms of unruly, indisciplined traffic. It is very shocking, indeed, to see the contempt and total disregard for Traffic Signals and extreme amount of wrong-side driving! 

This evening, we took a drive around Ahmedabad City. A bustling, modern metropolis. Happy Street (Law Gardens) is a Hawkers paradise and a foodies delight, with a number of Food trucks, offering a wide range of food, parked in the evening time. The Riverfront is a lovely walkway, not as good as Cochin's Marine Drive walkway, though!! 😜 

Tomorrow afternoon, before we depart for Vadodara (Baroda), we will visit Sabarmati Ashram, in the morning, and have lunch at Agashiye - a top destination in Ahmedabad, for Gujarati cuisine. Baroda is only 110 kms away. 

A food update ........😂 Last night, at Ajmer, we found "Laal maas" in our own hotel restaurant! Laal maas is a very popular mutton dish, available across Rajasthan. We had Phulkas, Laal maas and dahi, for dinner......it was mouth-wateringly delicious!😋😃 Whenever you are in Rajasthan, don't miss Laal maas! Tonite's dinner at Ahmedabad was also superb....... Chicken Dak bungalow (Delicious Chicken curry with full boiled eggs in it)😅, Rajasthani Kadhi pakoda and Naans! The culinary journey continues.....😅
